Welcome to Our Home!
The building that our office occupies, officially known as the Bals-Wocher House,
was built in 1869.
The Bals-Wocher House is considered the finest example of Italianate architecture in Indianapolis.
It stands today as a reminder of the respectable residential neighborhood that existed here.
Established on the National Historic Register in 1979, the Bals-Wocher House was originally built by Charles H.G. Bals, a German immigrant who made his fortune in wholesale liquor.
Upon Mr. Bals' death in 1876, the house passed to his daughter, Mrs. John Wocher, whose husband was president of Franklin Insurance Company.
The house was expanded and used from 1916 to 1975 by Hisey and Titus funeral directors. In 1975 the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association occupied the house as an art gallery. The home was purchased in 1978 by S & F Trading Company, and thereafter various tenants occupied all or portions of the house.
In the late 1980s, substantial renovations were initiated, following the acquisition and occupancy by Van Corporation.
The Indiana Association of Credit Managers obtained the building in an exchange agreement with Indianapolis Newspapers Inc. and substantial repairs (performed by William S. Conner and Company and supervised by the architectural firm of J.W. McQuiston)
were performed. Our law firm purchased the building in April, 2001.
We are quite proud of our home. It is truly a unique building and we welcome you
to visit.
