Contributing to the Community: Tim Caress

Tim Caress is a local attorney committed to his community and family. Other than his time at Indiana University, Tim has lived on the North side of Indy for 40 years.  He currently lives about 10 houses away from where he grew up in the Meridian Kessler neighborhood.

“My family is deeply ingrained in this community. I firmly believe in being engaged where you live rather than just a passive resident. This is what makes community life richer and fuller, more vibrant, for everyone. To me this is one of the most important things I can teach my kids”

Tim sees his community involvement as a natural extension of the work he does as an attorney.

“The kind of law that we practice is about helping people who have been hurt or who have lost a loved one. That is the singular focus of this law firm. This focus dovetails perfectly with the opportunities we have to give back to our neighborhoods and the city.”

Living in Indianapolis fits Tim just right.

“Indy is such a comfortable place to live, easy to get around in, lots to do. The pace of life here allows a person to enjoy life. Mostly, though, I think it’s the people that make living here best. The individuals I come into contact with have time to talk to you; to listen to you; to help you. People here genuinely care about the community they live in.”

With four young children, Tim stays busy. He enjoys helping with their youth sports teams, including  hockey, volleyball and soccer. He and his family are members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish on the north side. In addition, Tim serves on the board of The Orchard School, here in Indianapolis, as well as the Indianapolis Bar Association.

“Not only is it important that I am involved in the community but I want my kids to be involved as well. Like most people, there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the week to do everything you want to do. Volunteering at The Orchard School gives me a chance to invest in the community, with my family. One way we do this is with Orchard In Bloom. This is a popular annual event that raises over $10,000 to support Holliday Park. Each year, my kids look forward to our time volunteering together as a family.”

When he finds some time for himself,  Tim enjoys running. He’s looking forward to running in The Monumental Marathon this November in downtown Indianapolis.
