Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Spastic cerebral palsy is the most common form of cerebral palsy and is characterized by stiff or permanently contracted muscles. The condition has numerous causes, some of which are unknown. However, one of the known causes of spastic cerebral palsy is medical malpractice. When a doctor or other medical professional fails to exercise a standard level of care before, during, or within the first few years of birth, the consequences can be devastating. Spastic cerebral palsy is one of those consequences.

If your child suffers from spastic cerebral palsy and you suspect medical malpractice/negligence is the cause, please contact the firm of Cline Farrell Christie Lee & Caress today for a free consultation.  One of our experienced medical malpractice attorneys will be happy to evaluate your case and advise you as to your legal rights and options.

Types of Spastic Cerebral Palsy

There are five types of spastic cerebral palsy, each of which is defined by the difficulty in movement or even the paralysis of various parts of the body.

  • Diplegia:  Diplegia affects the movement of both arms or both legs
  • Hemiplegia:  Hemiplegia affects the limbs on one side of the body
  • Quadriplegia:  Quadriplegia affects all the limbs on the body
  • Monoplegia:  This is a rare condition that affects only one limb
  • Triplegia:  This is also a rare condition that affects three body limbs

If there were any difficulties during your pregnancy or delivery, including a C-section birth, jaundice, meningitis or the exposure to such tests as a CT scan or MRI, medical malpractice could have contributed to your child’s condition.
